2024 Kia EV9: Everything You Need to Know

After months of waiting, Kia finally unveiled its next all-electric SUV, the EV9. There is a lot of good news, starting with the fact it is going available in Canada. The production model is also reasonably close to the concept in terms of design, which is good. By the way, you may not know this, but the man behind the EV9 design is, in fact, a Canadian himself, and therefore the Korean SUV has a more special place in our hearts.

The Kia EV9 is equally good-looking and efficient. The Korean SUV will deliver quite impressive performances. Kia also announced a plan to introduce Level-3 autonomy with the GT-Line trim level EV9. The Korean SUV will be built from as many sustainable biomaterials as possible in order to achieve carbon neutrality.

A New Flagship 3-Row EV SUV

The 2024 Kia EV9 is massive, although it is considered a mid-size SUV. It is 5,010 mm long, 1,980 mm wide, and 1,755 mm tall. The Korean SUV has one of the most spacious greenhouses in its segment and will be configured to have up to 7 passengers.

The dashboard is modern and minimalistic. A vast screen incorporates the instrument cluster and the infotainment system. Kia's designer did a fantastic job of including a luxurious feel, ambient lighting, and a high-quality finish.

Technical Aspect

The 2024 Kia EV9 will offer several options for the powertrains. The first will be a 215-hp single motor with a 76.1 kWh battery. You can get a bigger 99.8 kWh battery with the same engine, although the power is reduced to 201 hp. Next in line is the all-wheel-drive two electric motors EV9 with a total capacity of 380 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque, and this is where things start to get impressive. This powertrain will allow the EV9 to hit 100 km/h in less than 6 seconds, and it's not even the most powerful version available. The Korean SUV will also offer a 380 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque option, reducing the 0 to 100 km/h to 5.3 seconds. Except there is a catch here since the only way to unlock this kind of power will be thru an update, and as you can expect, it's not free. This is becoming a new trend in the automotive industry.

The Kia EV9 is built on the same architecture as the EV6, so we can expect an ever more powerful version to come out soon, as the EV6 GT offers a 577 hp and 546 lb-ft of torque version.

As for the autonomy, Kia announced a maximum of 541 km on a full charge with the WLTP method, which isn't the one we use in North America, so we can expect this number to be a little lower but still impressive in Canada. Thanks to an 800-volt system, the EV9 will get almost half its range back in less than 15 minutes with a 350 kW supercharger.

According to Kia, the brand-new EV9 should hit the Canadian market in the third semester of this year.
